An 18-year-old Millburn teen has been indicted with first degree aggravated manslaughter by an Essex County Grand Jury for the January, 2009, death of a 40-year-old South Orange man.

The teen, who was 17 at the time, was also charged in the indictment with vehicular homicide and driving while intoxicated within 1,000 feet of a school.

According to the indicment, the Millburn teen was driving more than 50 mph in a school zone with a 25 mph speed limit on Jan. 27, 2009, when his Jeep collided with a Nissan driven by the 40-year-old man.

Following the crash at the intersection of Long Hill Drive and Parsonage Hill Road, the man was taken to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Police arriving at the scene allege that the teen was intoxicated at the time of the accident.

He was originally arrested and charged as a juvenile but the case was waived up to adult court. If convicted, he faces 10 to 30 years in prison.
